Background : James completed both his degree in Mathematics and PGCE at the University of Leeds before embarking on his teaching career in a range of secondary schools across Oxfordshire. He spent 21 years teaching mathematics and computer science acting as head of department, strategic ICT lead, assistant headteacher and SENCO in an Ofsted Outstanding school. In 2016, after experiencing hospital education from a parent’s perspective, he joined the Oxfordshire Hospital School as Assistant Headteacher where he worked for four years. James now leads Hospital and Outreach Education (HOE), an AP academy for pupils with medical needs in Northamptonshire. HOE is part of The Skylark Partnership Trust, the first Multi Academy Trust for medical needs provisions. James is a trustee for The Gallery Trust, a special school MAT in Oxfordshire and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.

  • Pupils in homes and schools reintegrating back to mainstream
  • HOE has led the Alternative Provision Innovation Fund AV1 project and won the TES Award for Innovative use of ICT in 2020
